Nightingales' have a 'Love of Learning'
We are learning all about Pirates and we have been writing our own pirate poems. We are also getting ready for our Key Stage 1 assembly, Don't miss it! Wednesday 12th July at 9:15am.
Keep an eye out for our West Midlands Safari Park trip photos in the next few weeks. The children are getting very excited and so are we!

Well Done to all the year 2's. You worked really hard on your SATs this week and all did a fantastic job. We will be back to our 'Great Fire of London' topic and writing our own stories.
The year 1's have been working hard this week learning a classic fairy tale - they did some fabulous role play and really went into their characters.
I hope you have all had a lovely Easter holidays and haven't eaten too much chocolate! We are in for an exciting term - learning all about 'The Great Fire of London'
We will be exploring a range of fiction and non-fiction stories all about 'The Great Fire' and investigating what happened in the major event. Within our English we will be incorporating the History of the event making our cross-curricula links across the subject.
In Maths we will be exploring capacity, subtraction and securing our understanding of the 2, 5 and 10's times tables alongside days of the week and months of the year. Year 2's will also be covering statistics and exploring a range of graphs and tables.
A huge thank you to Mrs Steed, Miss Mills and Mrs Bis for taking the year 2s to Kingswood, they had an amazing time and came back all nice and muddy ready for bed!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KS1 ATHLETICS TEAM WHO ONLY WENT AND WON 1ST PLACE! You worked so hard, amazing!
We had a fabulous time on World Book Day! Thank you to all our mummies and daddies that helped us look brilliant for the day. We had lots of fun sharing some stories with our buddy class 'Falcon' and retelling them the story we have been exploring in English 'Too Much Talk'.
We will be introducing our 'African adventure' topic with a couple of very exciting days. The children will be completing lots of crafts and activities related to Africa such as tye dye, jewellery making, masking making, fruit tasting and Art. We even have a surprise, a special visitor organised for Thursday! Watch out for photos.
Over the next two weeks we will be exploring multiplication facts for 2, 5 and 10 using pictorial representations and arrays (and repeated addition - Year 2). We will also begin to explore division and sharing numbers to solve the division problems.
We have been doing lots of learning in English, we have been learning all about dinosaurs and have enjoyed reading Dinosaurs love underpants. We have also explored a range of non-fiction texts and learnt lots of interesting facts about dinosaurs.
We have started to write our own dinosaur poem this week and will be reading Tyrannosaurus Drip next week.
We have been working hard in maths this term exploring fractions; halves, quarters and thirds. We explored using a mixture of food items and sharing them between ourselves. See the photos below.

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas, which it sounds like you did. The children have been very lucky with all of their presents.
We are all excited to start our topic this term 'Our Dinosaur Discovery' and 'The Stone Age'.
Just a message to say a huge thank you for all of your support! The children did an amazing job with their performances we are all very pleased. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
In maths we have been exploring money, identifying the value of coins and notes and making different amounts using the coins. We have also been exploring 3D shapes and identifying their properties. We have also been exploring subtraction using objects, number line and using a written method. You have all done a FAB job. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
In English we have been exploring 'The Jolly Postman' and 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'. We have had lots of fun creating story maps and writing as a character from the stories. We all worked extremely hard to gather a word bank of rhyming words four our rhyming letters!

In English this week we have read Herman's Letter and have been exploring the key features of letter writing. We have also been in character of Herman and Henry with our fabulous role-playing of the characters to explore how they would feel.
In maths this term we are exploring addition and subtraction with one and two digit numbers and number bonds. We are also going to be exploring money and 3D shapes.
In English this week we had a visitor arrive at Nightingale class, A MEERKAT! We found out that his name was Sunny and we all enjoyed writing postcards from Sunny's parents to find out what he had been up too.
Welcome back our topic this term is all about letters. We will be exploring a range of books and writing lots of lovely letters. We will also be writing letters to Santa!

The children in Nightingale Class have thoroughly enjoyed their English learning linked to Traction Man and Supertato. For the next few weeks we will be improving our writing by making sure we write in complete sentences with the correct punctuation. We will also develop our use of exciting language by continuing our work on adjectives!
In maths we will are learning about place value. We have been learning to read and write two-digit numbers and the number of tens and ones in a two-digit number. We are also exploring numbers on a number line and calculating the value of the number using our understanding of the tens times tables.
