SUMMER TERM
Well the year seems to have flown by! Lots of lovely learning has happened in F2 this year and we are now reaching the final stage before the children take the next steps in their journey.
We are planning plenty of activities to prepare the children for their move in September and are committed to enabling all children to make a smooth transition. We would urge you to come and talk to us as soon as possible if you have any concerns regarding this process. The earlier we are aware of issues, the better we can deal with them together for the benefit of your children. Look out for more information in the coming weeks.
Our journey begins this week as the children begin to attend a weekly Key Stage 1 assembly. We will also take the children out to play in the Key Stage 1 playground (one of us will stay with them) from next week. To orientate children to the KS1 learning space, we will go in when the other children are outside to read stories and have a look around.
Our topic for this half term is 'mini beasts' - the same as the children in Year 1 and 2, so we will plan some shared activity days for later in the half term. Parents will of course be invited in during the run up to the end of term - dates to follow.
CREAM TEA.
Don't forget the Foundation Stage Cream Tea day - 19th June.
Children will bring letters home with all the details.
Sports Relief
A quick reminder that Friday 21st March is Sports Relief day. We are inviting children to come in dressed as their favourite sportsperson for a donation of £1 to this worthy cause. We will (weather permitting) be completing a mile around the school grounds so please ensure your child has trainers or other suitable footwear for this.
24th February 2014
Spring Term (2)
This half term we will be exploring the topic of "Space", beginning with one of our topic books "Whatever Next".
Before half term we sent out planning/interest sheets to all Foundation 2 children in order to allow them to be a part of leading their own learning.
Some of these sheets have been return and it has been lovely to see the questions the children are asking and the activities they would like to take part in.
This really helps us to base our class activities on the children's interests and allows the children to retain ownership of their learning.
It is not too late to fill these sheets in with your child and maybe one of their ideas will be used in our class planning!
World Book Day
Next Thursday (March 6th) it is World Book Day, where we will be looking closely at reading our favourite class books, basing our activities on books, writing about books and even dressing up as our favourite book characters!
In preparation for this, we are asking that children have a go at "Extreme Reading" and asking their grown-ups to take a picture for our World Book Day display in school.
Extreme reading does what it says on the tin - reading in the most extreme way you can think of!
Previous examples of this include: reading stood on your head, reading more than one book at a time, reading up a climbing frame, "reading" while asleep, whole families reading at the same time, etc.
Can you think of an extreme way to read? We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Spring Term (1)
30th January 2014
Thank you everyone for your weekly 50p contributions. These have enabled us to provide baking and making activities for your children to join in with. Tomorrow the 50p's will go towards some Chinese food for cooking as we learn about life in China and Chinese New Year.
Please make sure you send the slip back to let us know if your child suffers any allergies.
Remember to check in regularly for updates and news and to find out what your children have been doing in F2.
Week Beginning 11th November:
Our topic for the next 2 weeks is 'The Gruffalo' - starting with the story and exploring the themes.
On Wednesday and Thursday, (13th and 14th) we are holding our first parent's evenings. Appointment times have
been sent home, so if you have not yet signed up please come and see me as soon as possible to book
your slot to find out how your child is progressing at school. There are plenty of times available.
Friday (15th) it is Children in Need Day. We will help to raise money for Children in Need by following the theme of
this year's campaign. Dress as a superhero for the day and bring a contribution of £1 for Children in Need.
Week Beginning 18th November:
Class Assembly will be on Thursday 21st, at 9.15am in the junior hall.
The children from Robins and Goldfinch classes will present some of the things they have been learning inspired by our Gruffalo story topic.
All parents are welcome.
The assembly will last approximately 15 minutes.
Friendship Week.
Children will be learning about the value of friendship and making some new friends by joining in
planned activities with Magpies Class.
On Wednesday 20th at 2pm, please come to school if you are able, and join in our friendship activities with your children.
We will be posting diary dates and times for Christmas parties and events as soon as we can. Watch this space!
