Summer Term 1
This half term our topics are ...
We started our topic with a WOW day all about mining.
We had our own mine tunnel to push coal arts along, made pit props to hold the pit ceiling up and made day lamps.
This half term we will be investigating the history of the local area.
We will also be using a variety of maps and geographical sources to look at places around the world.
I hope you all had a fantastic half term and are looking forward to our new topic.
We have looked at the work of the artist Eric Joyner who includes robots ( and doughnuts ) in his pictures.
We have created our own art work in his style.
We have carried out a variety of science investigations to learn about forces and magnets.

As part of our wow day we used magnets to create some magnet art.
In English, we will be reading the story of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.
As part of our topic we will be investigating magnets and forces.
Spring Term 1
We are now doing gymnastics in P.E. on a Wednesday
so make sure you have your P.E. kit with
Some of the great activities we have done so far -
Cooked and eaten curry. We made our curry and than had a great feast eating it.
Maths day -
We worked out the cost of buying an Indian meal and did data handling with Divas.
We have rewritten the story of Rama and Sita as a play and are creating our own shadow puppets and theatres to show our performance.
As part of our topic we have also been learning about Diwali - the festival of light.
To introduce our topic we had a day of fun that involved traditional Indian dancing, rangoli patterns and mehndi patterns.
Looking at how shadows are made, measuring the size of shadows and how they change when the light source is moved.
We will be investigating light sources.
We made and ate a delicious fruit salad, got creative in the style of Archimboldo by making vegetable pictures and used our artistic skills to produce tree collages.
Our topic this half term is plants. Look out for the newsletter which will tell you all about the activities we will be doing over the coming weeks.

Dove Class year 3 children start swimming on Tuesday 10th May. Remember to bring your swimming kit to school.
The final day of our Roman topic.
We had a fantastic day creating Roman mosaics and having a Roman V Britons battle. We even looked like Romans for the day! Some brilliant costumes. Well done Dove Class.
We had a fantastic day learning about the Romans.
We got chance to be archaeologists for the day and examine artefacts. We found Roman settlements on maps, played Roman games, wrote on a Roman wax tablet and even had the opportunity to dress like a Roman!

As part of our electricity topic we designed and made models with working circuits.
Please read with your child at least five times a week. Don't forget, you can use Reading Eggs as another form of reading and complete the comprehension activities to further improve your reading. Its fun to read and it fills our heads with knowledge!
What about challenging your friends on Mathletics! It is a fun way to improve your Maths knowledge and you can compete against other people across the world! Please remember to practice your times tables each week too.
We have made pyramids, facts, riddles, powerpoints, hieroglyphic writing, pictures and even homemade 'papyrus' paper.
We started our topic on Ancient Egyptians with a fantastic day.
We visited a 'pyramid' in a classroom and became archaeologists to investigate pictures and artefacts.
We 'mummified' tomatoes.
We created our own masks.
We had a brilliant time!
